"become a fan" changed to "like"

Starting today people will be able to connect with Pages by simply clicking the “Like” button rather than “Become a Fan.” According to facebook, this action will feel much more lightweight, and that it will increase the number of connections made across the site.  They believe that the usage of “like” on brand pages will be much better.

A lot of people have started commenting and talking about it. Some are liking it while some prefer to stick with the “become a fan” button.

I don’t think much changed but I did notice few things.

First, on the left side where they show the fans of the page, they will show your friends who also like the page; which means that more people are likely to like a page when they notice that their friends like it.

Facebook has already given an advanced notice to most of us especially the ad agencies that their “become a fan” button will change to “like”. Facebook also explained how this “like” button will affect their ad campaigns. An Engagement ad unit, capable of making connections, will feature the ‘Like’ button and show social context above it such as, ‘John Doe and 3 of your friends like [Page Name].’ Standard ad units which are not capable of making connections, will simply feature the word ‘Like’ by itself, and may show social context above it that says ‘John Doe and 3 of your friends like this ad.’”

Why did “Become a Fan” change to “Like”?

Facebook answers: To improve your experience and promote consistency across the site, we’ve changed the language for Pages from “Fan” to “Like.” We believe this change offers you a more light-weight and standard way to connect with people, things and topics in which you are interested.
