multi-focusing

Multi-tasking is an awesome skill to master. You can definitely relate multi-tasking with multi-focusing because without proper focus, you can’t achieve solid results from multi-tasking.

Today I have a quick post but an important one. I want to share some of my personal tips on why I think multi-focusing can lead to failure at certain times.

Before I begin my rant, I want you all to know that building web businesses require lot of work and intense focus. You cannot start several businesses and expect all of them to grow at the same pace.

As a matter of fact, multi-focusing is one of the most challenging things faced by entrepreneurs, internet marketers and business people. Of course, unless you have mastered the art of automation like the gurus and famous entrepreneurs; in which case you can automate stuff and let multiple businesses run on its own, multi-focusing can bring you down.

I started blogging in 2009 while schooling fulltime. I had only 4 domains at that time and my first online business was Squidoo Lens Builder which creates squidoo lenses for clients. Then came two of my favorite blogs- Mastermind Blogger and Why Go Green Today. At that time, I had no clue about blogging and had no idea how to blog for money. All I had was a lot of passion to learn and give back to the community. I joined several forums and followed several blogs in my niche. I wanted to learn so much and within two years I gained so much knowledge about various internet businesses and niches that I started almost 50 others websites while being in college fulltime. Result? Multi-failing my friends. Now before you start calling me a loser and get unmotivated by this statement, keep reading and you will also discover the solution :)

Having 50 or 100 websites is totally meaningless if you are unable to monetize them. It’s almost like saying you have 10,000 facebook likes on your page and your fans hardly even talk about you. We should focus on quality and ROI and not just quantity. If you are not making money from 1 website or blog then you are most likely not going to make money from the rest of your sites. Why? Because multi-focusing can lead you to work on multiple stuff at the same time without giving enough time to a particular business which have the highest money making potential.

Let me explain. I know bloggers who make 5-6 figure a year from blogging. And I am sure you know some of them too. These people are not special. They are just hard worker and they tend to focus on 1-3 things max at the same time. For example John Chow who makes over 40K a month from his blog had dedicated a huge amount of time in building his blog and audience for over 3-4 years before getting involved in more online ventures and businesses. Pat Flynn from smart passive income had devoted his entire 2 years in creating extra ordinary content on his blog which is loved my millions. There are ton more stories like these and I am sure you get the point. The pro bloggers always focus on a core thing and they spend most of their time and resources to grow that thing. This is the secret my friends.

When I created Mastermind blogger, I had to start somewhere. I blogged for a while and if you notice, you will see a huge difference in my blogging style from the early 2009 till now. This is because we all start as a noob and then learn as we grow. However, since I started several other websites and projects at the same time, I was unable to take mastermind blogger to the next level. I am definitely proud of my blog but not my achievement. I strongly believe that if I had put all my focus and energy into building this blog for the past 2 years, I would have been making 5-6 figures right now. Yes, my friend, that is the truth.

I am telling all these because I have already started making money from my blogs and I can see the potential. The best part is, when you start making money from your business and see it loved by your audience, you get excited and you start focusing on it more than ever. This is very true. Most bloggers quit blogging because they don’t see the big picture. Consistency and dedication is the key to success when it comes to blogging.

So what happened to the 50 other sites I was talking about? Ok, I know it sucks but digest it for now :) Some of them died and some of them are still alive waiting for me to create awesomeness. I have hardly made any big bucks from my online sites because of lack of consistency, dedication and multi-focusing. I strongly believe that if you change/tweak a few things in your life, you will get success. And I will be talking more about this in my upcoming posts as I go about making these changes.

Beside my online ventures, I have a consulting and marketing agency called Elite Key2 Marketing. I have started doing some offline promotion as well as online ppc. I am also enrolled in Apple IOS developer program and have some app ideas in mind that I would like to put in action soon. And finally I have some kindle books that I plan on releasing early next year on the kindle store.

So what the hell am I doing again? Bloody multi-focusing? Not! It is going to be multi-tasking but not multi-focusing my friends :)

I intend to hire developers and writers who will take care of my app and books part. I will also outsource a good portion of my marketing. If you are interested to work with me then fill out the form here: Ahsan Media Career. With that being said, I will only focus on 3 of my blogs (1 new one is coming up), video production and consulting. I love sharing knowledge with the world and that is why I give importance to blogging. I also love consulting and making people more money so I will keep doing that for now. Besides that, creating app and kindle ideas were always my thing anyways :)

Last but not the least, you can definitely get good at multi-tasking and then maybe master multi-focusing. However, in the initial stages, try to restrict yourself to 1-3 things max and put all of your energy, life and soul into those 3. Nourish them and grow them and taste success my friends.
